Building Hope, Changing lives
Newbridge Place is a non-profit compassionately dedicated to promoting improved mental, physical and social well-being to persons with a severe mental illness or traumatic brain injury in a 24-hour clean and safe environment.
Where Your Support Goes
Get Inspired. Take Action. Change Lives.
IMAGINE a life where a single major life trauma, a brain injury or a mental breakdown prevents you from having a job, pursuing an education, having the ability to remember how to make meals or pay your bills, having the motivation to socialize with friends and family, or even just getting out of bed. Imagine becoming homeless because mental illness robbed you off the power to keep your life together; and then imagine what it feels like to be stigmatized and often criminalized because of your diagnosis.
We need to find ways to enable every human being suffering from mental illness to gain access to affordable services that lead to recovery and the housing they need, - so that they are not chronically in that situation.
Newbridge Place has been providing 24-hour care and long-term housing to people with chronic mental illnesses whose independent functioning is impaired since 1998. Residents typically suffer from severe and persistent mental illnesses such as paranoid schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, major affective disorders, and PTSD. Many of the individuals served are dual diagnosed with drug and alcohol dependence and/ or suffer from physical limitations. Due to the unique 24- hour staffing, training and dedication to this population, many of the residents succeed in maintaining more independent living. These residents are therefore at a lesser risk of hospitalization, jail, or homelessness.
Newbridge brings a great value to the community, that can be measured by the reduction of homelessness, hospitalization, and incarceration of an acutely vulnerable population.
Newbridge Place believes that every human being experiencing chronic mental illness and homelessness should have the opportunity to gain access to affordable housing and support services that lead to recovery and greater autonomy. With resources provided by our supporters, Newbridge can provide those services and meet the needs of our residents.

The NBP home has a large dining room and living room for the residents to gather for a variety of activities, as well as for dining or watching TV. It also has quiet areas, for reading or visiting with family and friends.
Some of the residents’ fun activities include football pizza parties and other seasonal get-togethers. In September, families and residents gather at NBP for a Labor Day picnic. In December, there’s a wonderful Christmas party with all the trimmings for the residents and their families. Of course, Santa arrives to personally join in the fun!
Other activities for residents take place at various community locations for example, the Cloverleaf Recreational Center, movie theaters, restaurants, and county fairs.

“I was in search of an organization where I could volunteer my time and help people. A close friend of mine introduced me to Newbridge Place and I was so happy she did.The heartfelt dedication and compassion that Elizabeth and the staff extend to the residents align with what I was searching for in a non-profit organization. I served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years and a big part of my business today as a real estate agent is helping military Veterans buy homes.”

align with what I was searching for in a non-profit organization. I served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years and a big part of my business today as a real estate agent is helping military Veterans buy homes. I now volunteer for Newbridge Place driving the Veterans to their doctor appointments and have been given the opportunity to serve on the Board to help promote the cause that Elizabeth, the Founder and Executive Director has given her life to do. Volunteering for Newbridge Place helps me continue my work in helping military veterans. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and will help Newbridge improve upon their goals in being of service to the community and improve conditions for those who are less fortunate.

“I contacted Ed Zackery at the Veteran Services Office in Medina. I asked Ed if he knew of any Veteran Organizations that did not receive federal funding. He told me of two groups, one at the Rittman National Cemetery and Newbridge Place. After meeting the members of the Newbridge Place Board and their Director, I decided to help them raise some needed funds.”

He told me of two groups, one at the Rittman National Cemetery and Newbridge Place. After meeting the members of the Newbridge Place Board and their Director, I decided to help them raise some needed funds. They were scheduling a doing a lot of small fund-raisers and overworking the volunteers. After a pasta dinner at the Medina Eagles Club, I suggest they start an annual campaign. The first year we raised around $15,000 dollars. Now we are raising nearly $40,000. This is very rewarding for me and now retired I am still giving back to my community.

Hi, I’m Anna. And I’d like to tell you what Newbridge Place means to me.
As a mother of a 45-year-old son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 18 years old, Newbridge Place means to me that my son has finally found a safe haven. A place that helps him grow in a stable, alcohol and substance abuse free environment. A place that helps him make good decisions and gives him the opportunities to strengthen his selfesteem and see a purpose in his life.
My son struggled with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and alcohol and substance abuse while trying to live independently for about 27 years. He struggled to keep the outside world influence of drug pushers, so-called friends, that used him and took advantage of his kindness while trying to sort things out in his own mind just to stay safe. The time came when my son could no longer live by himself.
He needed to be in a safe environment with people that cared about him and his safety. He needed compassionate people to help direct him and get him stable and back to feeling his life had purpose. In 2016, my son came to Newbridge Place to live.
What growth I have seen in him since he has been a resident at Newbridge Place has been transforming. With their daily care structure, agendas, work programs, and genuine love and compassion for their residents, I have watched my son regain his self-esteem, learn to communicate with intelligent conversations, display caring and loving emotions, which is hard for someone diagnosed with schizophrenia. Most of all, I have seen him start to believe in himself and that his life matters.
He has been given back a life that has purpose. Every community needs a Newbridge Place as a safe haven whose mission and ministry are for the safety and life-transforming help for those that live with traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, dual diagnoses of mental illness with alcohol and substance abuse. Newbridge Place gives the men and women a place to live with dignity, respect, and love, not only for our servicemen and women that we owe so much to, but for others in our community that need our help also.
I find it a great honor and a privilege to be an advocate and supporter of Newbridge Place.
