Living with mental illness is a journey that many people navigate every day, often with incredible resilience and strength.
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or life circumstances. These conditions do not define a person but are just one part of their complex and unique identity. It's important to understand that living with mental illness is not a sign of weakness but a testament to the human spirit's capacity for endurance and adaptability.

Supported Housing for Low-income, Mentally Disabled Veterans
Mentally ill veterans are at very high risk for experiencing chronic homelessness. The prevalence of mental disorders among homeless veterans varies from 48-67%, according to a report from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The 2023 Annual Homelessness Assessment Report to Congress showed that on any given night 623 veterans are homeless in Ohio.
Mentally ill veterans, especially those who do not receive VA benefits, don't have the income or other means to afford supportive housing, essential needs, medical and mental health services and treatment. As a result, many find themselves hospitalized, incarcerated or homeless.
While a few federal and state programs are dedicated to reducing homelessness amongst veterans, Newbridge stands out with its passion and capacity to serve those veterans, who cannot function independently due to their persistent and severe mental illnesses.
Established in 2016, Newbridge Veterans Place addresses the need by offering the opportunity for eight individuals to experience a clean, safe, and supportive home to live in and recover.
The 24-hour supportive care includes supervision of self-administration of medication, transportation to doctors, therapy, shopping and community events, all high-quality homemade meals, substance abuse management, work program, leisure activities, laundry and housekeeping services. The outcomes of this appropriate support and structure are lesser risk of hospitalization, jail and homelessness. Most of our residents come to us with insufficient income or benefits to pay for their care, so we seek funds to meet their needs.
